Communications Specialist

Job Summary

Working both independently and with teams uses specialized knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to manage, lead and grow the agency’s technology-industry account base. Limited guidance is provided to perform varied complex activities that require analytical ability, creativity, originality and ingenuity in making decisions and solving problems. Focus areas include marketing campaign development and execution, research, writing and editing, client communications, media relations and creative direction. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Writes and edits articles, brochures, ads, press releases, and other informative and promotional materials

  • Develops and creates original and compelling concepts

  • Writes, proofreads and edits copy for various materials

  • Adapts messaging to the most appropriate voice/tone so that it resonates with target audience(s)

  • Works with account supervisors and creative team to develop ad campaigns for technology clients

  • Builds editorial support for marketing ideas and projects

  • Establishes and updates writing standards to improve quality and generate positive campaign results

  • Proofreads and ensures that copy is accurate, clearly written and adheres to all style and brand standards

  • Partners with creative team to research and assess competitor and market trends

  • Takes an active role in developing clear and differentiated branding positions

  • Coordinates multiple copy projects simultaneously

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • English language usage and grammar, required to write and edit accurate high-quality copy

  • Media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods

  • Advanced advertising and marketing trends 

Skill in:

  • Composing copy quickly, accurately, creatively

  • Expressing ideas clearly and logically, ensuring end-user comprehension of products and services

  • Conducting advanced research using the Internet and other sources, and incorporating results in writing

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software, including word processing, spreadsheet, email and Internet reference service applications 

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively – both verbally and in writing

  • Manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced-environment with constant interruptions

  • Balance conflicting resource and priority demands

  • Maintain currency in assigned area of responsibility

  • Work independently as well as within a team environment

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Employ conceptual, visual and creative thinking to successfully collaborate with graphic artists, web site designers, and AV professionals

Educational and Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, Communications, English or related field and a minimum five (5) years of professional writing experience 

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
